Collective consciousness as virtual reality

Warning — this post might be a bit more abstract than usual, buckle up we’re going for a short ride…

What if one day we shared experiences through our dreams?

When Micheal Jackson wrote a hit song, he would rush to get it finished with the assumption that if he didn’t sing it Prince would.

Have you ever imagined something or thought of a unique idea only to find someone else doing it later down the line?

The world of ideas is a vast and constantly evolving space. Yet, despite the endless possibilities and variety, certain patterns and themes seem to recur time and time again.

Carl Jung’s theory of collective consciousness suggests that all humans are connected through a shared, unconscious realm of ideas and archetypes.

In a sense, ideas are like seeds that are planted in the collective consciousness. They grow over time, becoming more complex and refined as they’re shared and developed by society. As they grow, they become part of the collective consciousness, where they’re stored and passed down from generation to generation.

In an article I read recently, Brazilian journalist Lidia Zuin suggests that lucid dreaming is comparable to virtual reality, and one day instead of relying on headsets the metaverse could one day be rendered through our dreams.

Very Black Mirror…

However, it’s very possible that this reality might be closer than we think and far less scary than it may seem, thanks to the concept of collective consciousness, a (worldwide) “web” of shared symbols, archetypes, and narratives.

What if one day we shared experiences through our dreams?

It gives a completely different meaning to “See you tonight”😵‍💫

There were a lot of ideas discussed in the article and could sometimes be difficult to follow, but it’s definitely worth checking out here. A lot of questions surrounding the morality of the theory are definitely worth discussing as it raises questions about privacy and individuality.
